Run for Congo Women 2008!

August 11, 2008

Today in the Democratic Republic of Congo, people are still struggling after one of the deadliest wars in all history. Millions have died and new conflicts threaten peace every day. For women in Congo, brutal gang rape and torture are a daily reality. 60-80% of women are now single heads of their homes due to the conflict.

Run for Congo Women is a grassroots run/walk that has grown into a global movement and is dedicated to supporting Women for Women International’s Congo Program. When you Run for Congo Women, you are sending a simple message: that Congolese women are significant, that their lives are precious, and that you are running to help. You are also providing women with the chance to rebuild their lives after their lives have been torn apart by war.

Rallye Des Princesses

August 8, 2008

This June, in the beautiful and scenic roads of the French countryside between Paris and Cannes, women from all around came together for the Rallye des Princesses, an amazing car rally exclusively featuring cars made before 1972, and driven and navigated by women! Penny and Bridget, two Women for Women International supporters, engaged in all the good, competitive fun as they faced the challenge in their beautiful 1952 Jaguar XK120 through the back roads of the countryside for five days.  This year, they dedicated their participation in the rally to raising awareness and funds for Women for Women International’s Program in the Congo to support women survivors of war.  Taking part in the Rallye des Princesses for this good cause demonstrated such great creativity and adventure and shows that there are no limits to what supporters can do to help give hope to the women and children we work with.

Thank you Penny and Bridget for all of your support!

Happy Birthday!

August 8, 2008

Tara Kane, one of our wonderful dedicated supporters and someone who admits loving her own birthday, recently celebrated by dedicating her birthday party to Women for Women International. Her dedication helped raise over $100 and spread awareness for our programs and for the lives of women we work with. This party was truly inspiring as she was able to make her birthday a celebration for a worthy cause and help to make a difference for other women of the world. Happy Birthday Tara and thank you for all you’ve done!

August 4, 2008

The Women Surviving War (W.S.W) club at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School in Massachusetts put on a fantastic bake sale to show their support for Women for Women International! They set out to spread the word and raise awareness about the women survivors of war that Women for Women International works with and ended up raising over $100 to support our programs! Their efforts to promote consciousness of international issues among other high schoolers are yet another great example of young supporters working hard for women survivors of war. Thank you W.S.W for your wonderful work!
