Nicholas Kristof leads luncheon discussion for Women for Women International

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times will lead a panel luncheon for Women for Women International on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. The luncheon will be held at 583 Park Avenue (at 63rd Street) in New York City. The VIP Reception will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the luncheon program conducted from noon until 2 p.m.

Join Positive Energy for a 80’s Workout Party Charity Event

Join Positive Energy Dance Fitness for Women in Brookfield, Connecticut for a fun-filled night of dance, entertainment, and charity. One World Celebration Dinner to Benefit Women for Women International

Joanne Bagshaw and Tina Annibell of Bellport, New York invite you to a night of philanthropy, ethnic food and beverages, and raffles. The One World Celebration Dinner will support Women for Women International, as we engage women victims of war as they move to become active citizens.

 

The One World Celebration dinner will be held Friday June 5, 2009 from 7 to 10pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bellport. The event is being catered by Nourished Living, Cornucopia and The Grey Horse Tavern.

 

Tickets are $40 per person and will support Women for Women International.

ACT FOR CONGO is an initiative of actors and artists collaborating to spread awareness about the conflict in the Congo through public demonstrations, exhibitions, and performances. The movement includes actors, artists, musicians, writers, photographers, singers, illustrators, filmmakers, dancers, students, seniors—and everything in between. 

 

Join ACT FOR CONGO on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2009 in Times Square/Union Square in New York City to raise awareness about the atrocities that women and children face every day in the Congo. This event is not a protest, but a demonstration of “inspired action” to send a message of hope and support to those living in the Congo.

Women for Women International’s Lyric Thompson to speak about women’s activism in an “Administration of Change.”

What Now? Feminist Activism in an Administration of Change” Panel at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

 Campus Progress joins the University of Michigan College Democrats Women’s Caucus and Students for Choice to examine the status of women’s activism in today’s new era of progressivism and change. Women for Women International’s policy analyst, Lyric Thompson, Beverly Fish, president of the Washtenaw County National Organization for Women, and Kay Steiger, columnist at RHRealityCheck.org, will address these possibilities, as well as the new challenges for advancing women’s rights in the United States and abroad.

West Chester University’s performances of The Vagina Monologues to support Women for Women International.

As part of the 2009 V-Day College Campaign, the students of West Chester University are proud to present a benefit production of The Vagina Monologues to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to end violence against women and girls. This year, proceeds from the show will be donated to Women for Women International, the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, and The Crime Victims Center of Chester County.

The performances will be held on April 4th at 7 PM and April 5th at 2pm. All shows will be held at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall at West Chester University, located at the intersection of High Street and University Avenue.

 Tickets are $5 for West Chester University students and other students with valid ID. Tickets for the public are $10. Tickets may be purchased at the SSI Office in the bottom floor of Sykes Student Union, which is located on 110 W. Rosedale Avenue, West Chester, PA 19393. They can also be purchased by calling 610-436-2984 or by showing up the night of the production at the box office.

In the welfare office they let go, all rules are off, and these citizens really tell what fare they would pay to be well.  Written and performed by Nia Orms and directed by Oz Scott, Please Take a Number is a collection of characters standing at the crossroads of passivity and leadership.  Find out what it means to fight for survival and individuality when you are told to Please take a Number

 

Nia Orms is an NAACP Award Winner for Best Actress in a Play. Backstage West says “Orms fully embodies these people… proves she has sharp skills as an actor and writer.”

Celebrate International Women’s Day with Yoga, Dance, Pilates, and Tai Chi and support Women for Women International!

The Community of Montclair, New Jersey has collaborated to present a day of classes in yoga, Pilates, dance, and tai chi. The “Removing our Limits: Heal Yourself, Heal the World” event will be held on March 8th, 2009 at Lotus Yoga, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Yoga Desha, and the Sharron Miller Academy of Performing Arts. This International Women’s Day event will support Women for Women International’s mission to help women in war-torn regions as they re-build their lives and communities.
