Ann Arbor activists have come together to form team Run for Congo Women – Ann Arbor. The team members are calling attention to the atrocities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and have been raising funds for Congolese women via Women for Women International.
The Run for Congo Women team will be running in the Big House Big Heart run on Sunday, October 3, 2010. The run goes through the University of Michigan’s beautiful campus with a spectacular finish – a run through the Big House tunnel and onto the football field. Runners will finish on the 50 yard line and watch themselves on the Big House Big screen. Anyone is welcome to join the team.
Team Run for Congo Women – Ann Arbor will not end their activism with the run. They have planned a film screening of the documentary “Lumo, One Woman’s Struggle to Heal in a Nation Beset by War” on Oct 20th as part of Congo Week, which is Oct 17-23. The activists plan to have various Congo events once a month.
