Dhahran Women’s Group brings community together to help women

Attendees who contributed to sponsoring Women for Women International.

The Dhahran Women’s Group, Saudi Arabia is working together to change the world for one woman at a time.

Members of the generous-hearted Latin ladies galvanized into action on behalf of the DWG to organise a Rumba Latina party. Three hundred tickets sold quickly, with a waiting list to attend. The event gathered its own momentum, becoming in itself a significant partnership between the DWG and amazing local sponsors whose overwhelming generosity helped engender the raising of SAR 37 305. A total of USD 9 936.03 was wired to WfWI.

The outstanding success of Rumba Latina can be credited to the dedicated and creative Latino team who put in many hours of hard work in preparation. Everything except the catering was donated (and even the caterers, Al Rushaid, gave us a very special deal as well as hosting the band). The wonderfully munificent champions of the cause included NCB, the most prominent bank in Saudi Arabia, who donated two laptops, 2 blackberries and an Ipad; Lufthansa-BMI (who donated two airline tickets to Europe); Intercontinental Hotels (who donated meals in local hotels and a weekend stay in Bahrain); Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bahrain; Coca Cola Bottling Company (who provided all the beverages for the evening); Mawarid Trading Ltd (Sensai cosmetics); Silver Museum; Royal Kashmir; Al Zamil (room decorations); Arabian Food Supplies; STC; Tavola; Dunya Al Asfour Ladies Centre; Carlton Nutrition Centre and Tamimi Catering. Photographer Lawrence Capuder also kindly donated his time and a photographic package, and, by making a photographic CD of the night available for purchase, will help continue the fundraising effort for WfWI.

As Henry Ford said, ”Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” The DWG will now sponsor 18 women through WfWI programs. Now that’s success!
