This year Lee Anne celebrates her birthday in a unique way. She and her husband hosted an event to benefit Women for Women International. 40 guests were invited to a House Concert in their home. The performers, a guitarist/raconteur and his accompanying singer, sang songs and shared stories inviting the group to think about life, love, loss, growth….they shared experience of their lives and coming out on the other side. In lieu of gifts, she’d asked for donations to Women for Women, Int’l. Her daughter, a budding artist at 10, created a hand-made sign that they posted in a basket of brochures. On the invitation, they talked about the good work the organization does around the world for women and families working to rebuild their lives. In her husband’s speech that evening, he talked about Women for Women Int’l. The result was great – brochures were collected, conversations begun and she received 1 cow, 3 goats, a bunny, a carpenter’s tool kit – all symbolic gifts as part of the Gifts that Give Back campaign currently taking place – and some monetary donations! It was all she’d hoped for her birthday….to spread the word about Women for Women Int’l, to give back….and to effect, in some way, seeds of positive change in the world!
