On February 8th, 2011, Mainstreet Moms honored the legacy of friend and activist Kathy Munger by raising thousands of dollars and awareness for Women for Women International. This citizen action group (themmob.org) showed a film and served homemade soup as a part of their Soup and Solutions Series. With the assistance of a $10 donation from about 150 participants, the group was able to raise $2,200, which was given to both Women for Women International and a local organization that serves low income people.
The film showed that evening, entitled A Small Act, follows the story of how a Swedish woman and a young boy in Kenya changed each other’s lives. Earrings that were generously donated by members were also sold throughout the evening to help contribute to the total proceeds raised. Mainstreet Moms said it best to introduce their evening, that “It all begins with a small act.” Such events as this demonstrate the strength of small actions and its ability to have a large impact and effect. Thank you to Mainstreet Moms for their inspiring evening and their continuous commitment to Women for Women International!
