About

Founded in 1993, Women for Women International helps women in war-torn regions transform their lives by providing financial and emotional support, rights awareness and leadership education and job skills training. Through our program, women become confident, independent and productive as they embrace the importance of their roles in rebuilding their families, their communities and, ultimately, their nations. In the last 14 years we have served more than 153,000 women and distributed more than $42 million in direct aid and microcredit loans.

We are currently mobilizing over 23,000 people to make a difference in the lives of women survivors of war. This blog is a way for us to share what our incredible supporters are doing around the world to raise awareness and get more people involved in creating strong nations by having stronger women. See what you can do today to get your community involved and make a difference in lives of women survivors of war.

Unfortunately, we do not. Our main office is in Washington DC, USA. We have another office in the UK and each country we are working in has its own country office.

Please tell me besides giving a $ donation. What are other ways I could get involved?

Many of our volunteers host fundraising events. You coul host an event of your own

Here are some tips for you for hosting a “house party” style event:

      1) Create an online invitation using Evite.com or a similar service, and on that invitation outline the basic details of the event along with a suggested donation. OR, you can set up a personal fundraising webpage by going to http://www.active.com/donate/womenforwomen, and simply send out that link to friends and family, asking them to “RSVP” by making a donation on the site. The funds raised on your site come directly to us – plus, this way you can keep track of who has donated.

      2) Decide if you’d like to show a video during the event. The Greatest Silence is a great documentary about the Congo. I can mail you a short DVD (less than ten minutes) about our organization’s work, if you’d like to use that.

      3) Plan out what you’d like to talk about at your event. Do you have a specific country that you’d like to focus on? Do you want to rally your guests to become sponsors in our sponsorship program? Browse our website and get a sense of where your interests lie.

      4) Let me know when your event will be, how many people you expect, and a mailing address to send materials to. I can mail you brochures, sign-up sheets if people want to join our communications list, and our organizational DVD.

      5) After the event, touch base with me about how it went! If you’d like to be featured on our Get Involved blog (https://womenforwomeninternationalcommunity.wordpress.com/), send me a brief write-up and photo and I’ll post it.

      6) In terms of handling donations, just a couple notes: cash should be converted to check or money order, with a note stating that this check represents the cash donations of several individuals. Any individual who writes a check for $25 or more will automatically receive a tax acknowledgment letter from us. If they donate online, they receive an email acknowledgment. When you mail in the funds, please mail them to my attention at our DC address (below). You can designate whether you’d like them to go to a specific country we work in. Otherwise, they’ll be used wherever the greatest need lies.

If you have any questions or need any further assistance with planning your event, please let us know! Thank you for your support!

Do you have an office in Ireland?

  4. I am a big advocate of women for women international and would love to sponsorship the organization especially with the fact that my family were fortunate enough to have fled the Vietnam war and start a new life in the U.K.
I understand there are millions of merciless victims of war. Many have lost family and friends and now trying to re-build their lives.
Please let me know the best way I can help.
    Many thanks

  6. I’d like to know if there is anyone in California heading up efforts? I recently signed up to be a sponsor but would like to get involved more.

    • Jen Morabito

Right now, we do not have any events going on in California that we know of. The best way to find out about events going on in your community would be to google search “women for women international” and then put in your city and state. If we do find out about any upcoming events in your area, we will be sure to post it on the blog! Thank you for your interest in our organization!
