Women for Women International wants to invite you to watch “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” October 1st, 2009 to hear Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, authors of “Half the Sky,” discuss their focus on the global movement to end the oppression of women across the world.
Lisa Shannon, founder of Run for Congo Women, will also talk to Oprah about her mission for the Congolese women.

I am committed to get more women involved with supporting this cause. I became a sponsor today and I look forward to planning a fundraiser event! The small amount of money that will help these women go wasted everyday and I will encourage others to become sponsors and make the small sacrifice in their Coach wallets that will make a big impact in these women’s lives! The costs of sponsorship is much cheaper than the designer purses and clothes we splurge on. I wish I could give more!
I watched the Oprah Winfrey Show today, and I was thinking of project for my students that would help others. I teach science at a local charter school in San Antonio. How could we (high school students) get involved in the Women for Women International Project?

You might also want to view and then consider showing them a film (try The Greatest Silence) or having them read a book (our Founder has written two books: Between Two Worlds and The Other Side of War). You can also record the Oprah show this Thursday – it’s all about women and girls around the world and we’re actually one of the featured organizations!
Then, if the students would like to take action, I would recommend something simple like a coin drive or a pizza party fundraiser. They can also raise funds and awareness online by setting up a school fundraising page at http://www.active.com/donate/womenforwomen. You can also share with them our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/womenforwomen).
I watched Oprah and l want to thank the founders of this organization for helping women around the world. I would like to get involved like having a fundraiser run in california, but l have never done any fundraising and would be grateful if l got some help.
Many of our volunteers host fundraising events. You could host an event of your own
Here are some tips for you for hosting a “house party” style event:
1) Create an online invitation using Evite.com or a similar service, and on that invitation outline the basic details of the event along with a suggested donation. OR, you can set up a personal fundraising webpage by going to http://www.active.com/donate/womenforwomen, and simply send out that link to friends and family, asking them to “RSVP” by making a donation on the site. The funds raised on your site come directly to us – plus, this way you can keep track of who has donated.
2) Decide if you’d like to show a video during the event. The Greatest Silence is a great documentary about the Congo. I can mail you a short DVD (less than ten minutes) about our organization’s work, if you’d like to use that.
3) Plan out what you’d like to talk about at your event. Do you have a specific country that you’d like to focus on? Do you want to rally your guests to become sponsors in our sponsorship program? Browse our website and get a sense of where your interests lie.
4) Let me know when your event will be, how many people you expect, and a mailing address to send materials to. I can mail you brochures, sign-up sheets if people want to join our communications list, and our organizational DVD.
5) After the event, touch base with me about how it went! If you’d like to be featured on our Get Involved blog (https://womenforwomeninternationalcommunity.wordpress.com/), send me a brief write-up and photo and I’ll post it.
6) In terms of handling donations, just a couple notes: cash should be converted to check or money order, with a note stating that this check represents the cash donations of several individuals. Any individual who writes a check for $25 or more will automatically receive a tax acknowledgment letter from us. If they donate online, they receive an email acknowledgment. When you mail in the funds, please mail them to my attention at our DC address (below). You can designate whether you’d like them to go to a specific country we work in. Otherwise, they’ll be used wherever the greatest need lies.

I watched the recent Oprah show and am inspired to get involved. I really picked up on how the smallest actions can make such a big difference. This year I will turn 40 in Dec and I have been trying to decide how I would like to celebrate. Now I have a plan! I will host a fund raising event and raise donation money through a silent action with items & services donated by local merchants. My employer, Gap Inc, also does a 100% match to any donation that I make so I can double my total contribution to Women for Women Intl. and really make a difference to some women in need.

This story was such a positive force in the universe. It had me wondering what can I do, i sat down thought about that question. What can I do, i published a book scheduled to come out November 28,09. I decided I can allow 10% of the proceedes to go and sponsor the women. Im one of those women. We must help one another to make the great change we ALL desire.
It made me realize what a great country we do live in and our day to day problems are nothing in comparison of woman that live in 3rd world countries,So thats why I’m sending my donation to Women for Congo!
I realized watching Women for the Congo we live in the greatest country,we don’t have any idea what these women have deal with on a day to day basis,that’s why I want to support women for congo!

I’ve been wanting to help a charity or organisation for a long time, but wanted to do more than just give money. This show really hit a nerve with me, and i’m now thrilled and eager to help another women in need. Can’t wait to be connected with my sister soon.
I saw the Oprah show last week Nov 09 in Australia.
I am going to become a sponser, I would also like to make people over here aware of this problem. As I do not have a wide circle of friends are you able to canvas donations, do I need a badge of some sort so they can see this would be legal. I feel I would be able to raise more this way.
